Reagan statue unveiled at D.C. airport (Politico)

A nine-foot-tall bronze statue of President Ronald Reagan was unveiled Tuesday at the Arlington, Va., airport bearing his name.

Former Sen. Bob Dole and his wife, ex-Secretary of Transportation Elizabeth Dole, who were both close to Reagan, were on hand for the unveiling of the statue in front of the airport?s Terminal A, according to reports.

The $900,000 statue is one of four privately funded statues endorsed by the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and placed on the centennial of his birth.

The other three statues unveiled for the occasion of Reagan?s centennial are in Simi Valley, California; Budapest; and London.

During his tenure as president, Reagan aided the transfer of the two major Virginia airports from federal hands to the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority. The airport was renamed from Washington National Airport to Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport in 1998.

Reagan served as the United States? 40th president, from 1981 to 1989. He passed away in June 2004.
