McKeon says he'll retire at end of season (AP)
MIAMI ? Florida Marlins manager Jack McKeon says he'll retire at the end of the season at age 80, a decision that had been expected.
McKeon made the announcement Monday before the team's final series of the year. He's the second-oldest manager in major league history, and he joked he hopes to return in a few years to surpass Connie Mack, who managed the Philadelphia Athletics until age 87.
McKeon also retired following the 2005 season with Florida. He returned in June as interim manager after Edwin Rodriguez resigned, but after a brief spurt the injury-plagued Marlins sank to last place in the NL East.
The next manager will be the Marlins' fourth since early 2010. McKeon wants to remain with the franchise as a consultant.

California policeman pleads innocent in homeless man's death (Reuters)
SANTA ANA, Calif (Reuters) ? A California policeman pleaded not guilty on Monday to killing a schizophrenic homeless man who was beaten and repeatedly shocked with a Taser in a videotaped July confrontation with six officers.
Fullerton police officer Manuel Ramos was charged last week with second-degree murder and involuntary manslaughter in the death of 37-year-old Kelly Thomas, and the judge in the case refused on Monday to reduce his $1 million bail.
Corporal Jay Cicinelli, who was charged with involuntary manslaughter and excessive use of force in the same incident, pleaded not guilty last week and was free on $25,000 bail.
Ramos, 37, faces a maximum of 15 years to life in prison if he is found guilty at trial while Cicinelli, 39, could face up to four years behind bars.
The fatal confrontation between Thomas and the six Fullerton officers, which was caught on video by a bus depot surveillance camera and the cell phones of two witnesses, touched off protests in the Southern California city.
The case is also being investigated by the FBI.
Defense attorney John Barnett asked Orange County Superior Court Judge Erick Larsh to set a lower bail for Ramos, saying the policeman did not pose a danger to the community.
Barnett said Ramos had been dealing with a "violent felon" in Thomas, a situation that occurred while he was on duty and would not be repeated if he were free on bond.
"This is not a typical murder case and typical bail should not apply," said Barnett, who won an acquittal in 1992 for Ted Briseno, one of four Los Angeles police officers charged in the videotaped beating of Rodney King.
But Ron Thomas, the victim's father, urged Larsh to keep bail for Ramos at $1 million in what he described as the "brutal murder" of his son, saying he feared retaliation.
"I don't sleep at night wondering if they will come to my house," he said. "I would consider him a flight risk. With the police officers' union posting his bail, he would think nothing of fleeing and not coming back."
"Please do not reduce the bail, I'm in fear for my life," Ron Thomas said.
Larsh, in rejecting the request, said he saw no unusual circumstances in the case and considered the bail appropriate.
Prosecutors said Ramos, who came to court in a yellow jail jumpsuit and was kept behind a cage, had been kept in isolation and under a suicide watch at the Orange County Jail.
Outside court, Barnett said Ramos' actions were within Fullerton police policy and that it was other officers who used lethal force on Thomas during the altercation. Thomas was on life support following the beating and died of his injuries five days later.
Larsh has ordered both Ramos, a 10-year veteran of the Fullerton Police Department, and Cicinelli back to court on November 4 for a pretrial hearing in the case.

Hall Construction Makes an Old House New Again ? Home ...

Thanks to Hall Constuction, this 1969 two-story traditional home in the popular East Cobb neighborhood of Fox Hills has been completely remodeled. Starting with the porch area, Hall added a new roof, new front elevation design, a rocking chair porch, new windows and doors as well as new James Hardie concrete siding and some landscaping, giving the exterior a completely new look.

The main-floor features a new floor plan made possible by removing a wall to open up the kitchen and living space. The kitchen now has custom cabinetry, a large island with a cooktop and breakfast bar, granite countertops, a copper sink and a butler?s pantry. A redesign of the fireplace accommodating an antique mantle gives the dining room a vintage aesthetic.
Second floor updates include a tray ceiling in the master suite; an expanded master bath with a spa shower, two sinks, custom cabinets, granite countertops and travertine tile; a new bathroom layout and design that included additional space for windows, which let in natural light, and a water closet. Finishing off the second floor remodel is a second full bath that includes custom cabinetry, a new steel tub/shower with tile, granite countertops and a double vanity. Desk nooks in the children?s rooms and an updated hand rail with wrought iron spindles leading to and from the second floor were added to update the space. The basement was finished with an egress window for safety, increased ceiling height and a guest suite complete with a full bathroom.
The house was painted inside and out, new wood flooring was tied in with refinished wood floors, the HVAC system was completely replaced and a second system was added for the second floor. Electrical systems were updated, a new control panel was added to the basement mechanical room, and cast iron plumbing was replaced with PVC pipes. Now this home has all the features of a newly constructed house within an established community close to Atlanta.

This, to me, is the main reason that I spend my few free hours scrapbooking. My grandmother was a compulsive scrapbooker herself, and I cannot begin to tell you how much I treasured being able to see pictures from over a century ago of my family. It?s really the closest thing to a time-machine that we?ve got so far, and your grandchildren will surely appreciate it just as much.
2.?? ?It is an activity that can involve the whole family.
In this modern world, finding activities that you can do with the entire family can be difficult, unless you can spend a lot of money. Scrapbooking is a very economical form of entertainment that is perfect for children, especially younger children. Even my husband has found this activity fun and stress-relieving.
3.?? ?It?ll give you a reason to print out the millions of photos stored in your computer or digital camera.
I don?t know about you, but I?m definitely the worst sort of shutterbug out there. I take millions of pictures?every step my children take, every cute thing my dog does, every tourist attraction on every family road trip I?ve ever been on. But then?and here?s the worst part?I leave the pictures to collect digital dust in my camera. If you commit yourself to scrapbooking, you?ll learn to go through all your pictures, delete the bad ones and print out the good and display the good ones.

Although this may seem like a silly reason to begin scrapbooking, I am personally attracted to the various embellishments that you can add to scrapbooks other than pictures and text. And kids do, too. Raccoons aren?t the only ones who like shiny objects, after all, and your children will spend hours of fun cutting up little papers, playing with glitter and stickers and so on.
There are various ways to begin scrapbooking, the most essential items are a scrapbook album, some photos, craft materials, some creativity, and you?re all set!

- Completes on-boarding process for all new hire to include coordinating background checks, drug screen and/or physical examination, and completion of all new hire paperwork. Sends all completed new hire paperwork to the Houston office for additional handling.
- Assists Management with interviewing candidates as requested.
- Performs weekly new hire orientations as required.
- Assists HR Recruiter with the AAP compliance processes.
- Processes Personnel Action Forms for employee changes.
- Assists the HR Coordinator in Houston with processes and procedures for Independent Consultants.
- Coordinates Leave of Absence (LOA) processes including FMLA, STD, Military Leave, Workers Comp, etc.
- Responds to employees benefit questions, including questions regarding the completion of benefit enrollment forms, change requests, etc.
- Coordinates the employee termination process.
- Processes and submits employee payroll information, benefit enrollment forms, and troubleshoots payroll issues, etc.

Ex-wrestling exec to make 2nd Senate bid in Conn. (AP)
HARTFORD, Conn. ? Former wrestling executive Linda McMahon is returning to the political ring and making a second run for U.S. Senate in Connecticut.
In a statement released Monday, the Republican said she plans to kick off her campaign Tuesday in Southington at a business that designs and manufactures custom-built coil processing machines. Repeating a message from her failed 2010 race, McMahon said voters need to send someone to Washington who understands the needs of entrepreneurs and job creators.
"You don't fix problems in Washington by sending back the same people who created them," McMahon said. "I'm a job creator. I'm not a politician."
The former WWE chief executive ran against former Democratic Attorney General Richard Blumenthal in 2010 in a campaign that marked her first experience as a candidate for elective office. McMahon ultimately lost after spending about $50 million of her own money on the race, spending much of it on television advertising and mailers.
Blumenthal defeated McMahon, who won the GOP nomination in a three-way primary, by more than a 10 percent margin.
As she did in 2010, she faces a likely Republican primary. Former U.S. Rep. Christopher Shays has said he plans to officially announce his candidacy next month. Hartford Attorney Brian K. Hill has already announced his candidacy and Vernon Mayor Jason McCoy is exploring a run for the party's endorsement. All are hoping to fill the seat now held by independent Sen. Joe Lieberman, who has said he will not seek a fifth term.
Several Democrats have already announced plans to run, including U.S. Rep. Christopher Murphy, former Secretary of the State Susan Bysiewicz, and state Rep. William Tong.
McMahon, 62, is best known for her time as CEO of WWE, the professional wrestling empire based in Stamford. She stepped down from the job in the fall of 2009 and has not returned to the company, which is run by her husband, Vince McMahon.
"It was a wonderful career, I thoroughly loved it. It will always be in my blood, always be a part of me, that's for sure," Linda McMahon told The Associated Press in November, after her loss to Blumenthal. "But stepping back into an administrative role would just not be the right thing for me now."
McMahon said at the time that she wouldn't have to spend anywhere near $50 million, primarily because she has become so well-known in the state. In recent months, she has been making the rounds, appearing at local Republican events, speaking to various civic groups and working with political consultants.
A Quinnipiac University Poll released last week showed McMahon would defeat Shays in a probable GOP primary, 50 to 35 percent, if it were held today. However, the same survey showed McMahon losing to Murphy and Bysiewicz in a general election.
The telephone survey, conducted Sept. 8-14, had margin of sampling error of 5.4 percentage points among the Republican participants and 2.8 percentage points for all voters surveyed.
