When people think of scrapbooking, it is not uncommon that their grandmothers come to mind. Yes, it is definitely an age-old tradition, dating back to, according to Wikipedia, 15th century England. But there is definitely lots of fun to be had in picking up this particular hobby, especially if you have young children who enjoy arts and crafts projects. If you aren?t someone who has yet tasted the joy of the scrapbooking, here are a few things to consider.
1.?? ?Preserving family memories is important for future generations.
This, to me, is the main reason that I spend my few free hours scrapbooking. My grandmother was a compulsive scrapbooker herself, and I cannot begin to tell you how much I treasured being able to see pictures from over a century ago of my family. It?s really the closest thing to a time-machine that we?ve got so far, and your grandchildren will surely appreciate it just as much.
2.?? ?It is an activity that can involve the whole family.
In this modern world, finding activities that you can do with the entire family can be difficult, unless you can spend a lot of money. Scrapbooking is a very economical form of entertainment that is perfect for children, especially younger children. Even my husband has found this activity fun and stress-relieving.
3.?? ?It?ll give you a reason to print out the millions of photos stored in your computer or digital camera.
I don?t know about you, but I?m definitely the worst sort of shutterbug out there. I take millions of pictures?every step my children take, every cute thing my dog does, every tourist attraction on every family road trip I?ve ever been on. But then?and here?s the worst part?I leave the pictures to collect digital dust in my camera. If you commit yourself to scrapbooking, you?ll learn to go through all your pictures, delete the bad ones and print out the good and display the good ones.
4.?? ?There?s glitter!
Although this may seem like a silly reason to begin scrapbooking, I am personally attracted to the various embellishments that you can add to scrapbooks other than pictures and text. And kids do, too. Raccoons aren?t the only ones who like shiny objects, after all, and your children will spend hours of fun cutting up little papers, playing with glitter and stickers and so on.
There are various ways to begin scrapbooking, the most essential items are a scrapbook album, some photos, craft materials, some creativity, and you?re all set!
